Your company purpose and name: Avoid stumbling blocks.

It sounds simple, but it can become an obstacle to formation: your company purpose and name.
Often, opening an account fails due to certain terms or phrases that banks reject due to compliance regulations. The commercial register office can even reject names because of small details such as a space.

💡 Our solution: Free purpose and name consultation for every start-up.
We help you formulate legally compliant purposes and choose bank-compliant names. This helps you avoid costly adjustments and lengthy bank searches.

FAQ: Firma gründen in der Schweiz?

How long does it take to set up a limited liability company (GmbH) or public limited company (AG) in Switzerland?
Once all the documents have been submitted (certified deed of incorporation), the company is established within 24 hours. Depending on the canton, entry in the commercial register, which confers full legal personality, takes between 7 and 21 days. Express options are available to speed up the process. In practice, the actual formation usually takes only 1–2 days, with the commercial register entry taking slightly longer.

Can I set up a company in Switzerland as an EU or third-country citizen?
Yes, you can set up a limited liability company (GmbH) or public limited company (AG) even if you are not a Swiss resident. The only legal requirement is that at least one person authorized to sign on behalf of the company must be registered in the commercial register as a resident of Switzerland (e.g., managing director or director). On request, we can provide a resident director service to ensure that your company is fully operational.
As an EU resident, you can also set up a sole proprietorship. However, this requires a more extensive process, which we can professionally assist you with.

How much does it cost to set up a company in Switzerland?
The costs vary depending on the legal form and additional services:

  • Sole proprietorship: CHF 290 (for Swiss residents) / CHF 490 (for EU residents)
  • GmbH or AG formation: flat rate from CHF 750 (including notary fees)
  • Asset formations / conversions: from approx. CHF 3,500 plus auditor

Additional fees are charged by the commercial register office (approx. CHF 600 for new companies) and bank fees for the capital contribution account (typically approx. CHF 250). Our packages are calculated transparently, so you know the total costs in advance.

Can you help us open a bank account?
Yes. We have close contacts with various banks and institutions that open both business accounts and capital contribution accounts – even if the shareholders or owners are not resident in Switzerland.

Can I open an account if I am a citizen of the USA or China and do not live in Switzerland?
Yes. We can also assist you with opening an account in such special cases. We work with banks that have experience in dealing with international clients and meet regulatory requirements.

Do I have to travel to Switzerland in person to set up a company?
No. Personal presence is usually not required. Thanks to powers of attorney and digital processes, a company can be set up entirely remotely. Our processes are modern, secure, and enable fast processing without the need to travel.

Can I speak to an advisor directly?
Yes. We are a law and tax consulting firm and can be reached:

  • via WhatsApp chat (24/7, response times often only a few minutes depending on the time of day)

  • through free initial consultation appointments, which you can book online

  • by phone at 041 781 0 781

  • in person at our office in Cham (Canton of Zug).
We will accompany you throughout the entire start-up process.

Do you also offer domiciles?
Yes. We offer a comprehensive package of domicile services, embedded in our firm. Our Atrium Signature Workspace in Cham provides modern, easily accessible workspaces. Every legal domicile contract includes 24/7 access. Further information can be found here: Legal domicile Zug
